Qavvivik – Inuit Family and Community Health Centre
Indigenous organization
Qavvivik is an Inuit-led and Inuit-run organization located in Montreal.
Our mandate is to provide and facilitate access to health care services for Inuit living in southern Quebec.
Our approach is inspired by the “IQI model” developed in Nunavik as part of the Qanuilirpitaa 2017 health survey. It describes health according to Inuit knowledge and experience. The model has three parts.
- Ilusirsusiarniq: The health of the body, in general. It is a condition of normal functioning without disease, pain, injury or sickness that impedes people from doing what they want to do.
- Qanuinngisiarniq: A broad sense of “well-being” that includes being happy, unworried, without pain, comfortable, and free of emotional distress.
- Inuuqatigiitsianiq: A kind of social health that is concerned with relationships with family members, friends, neighbours, and other people in the community.
We welcome donations to help us acquire country food that can be shared amongst the people we serve. If you would like to donate, please reach out to us by phone or email.
These services are intended for Indigenous peoples
