Siqinirmiut Ilusirsusiarvinga (Southern Inuit Holistic Health Clinic Centre)
The Southern Quebec Inuit Association (SQIA) aims to address the lack of front-line health and social services tailored to the specific needs of the Siqinirmiut community in Greater Montreal. Recognizing the profound health disparities and hesitancy to access mainstream services due to fears of discrimination, SQIA proposes the creation of an Inuit holistic health center. This center will focus on Inuit wellness activities, preventative health initiatives, family and children support, and education and training for health and social services providers. Through the hiring of Inuit support workers, the project aims to facilitate access to culturally safe health services, emphasizing a circle of care anchored in Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit principles. The overall objective is to develop Inuit-specific, culturally informed front-line holistic health and social services for the Inuit community in Greater Montreal, welcoming all individuals and families from southern Quebec.
