Indigenous and Black-led education models: How are they challenging Western institutions?

12 November 2025
Events

Join us for the second event in the fall 2025 season of the University of the Streets Café! Drawing from examples of “for us by us” post-secondary education models, this public conversation aims to explore if and how Indigenous and Black-led initiatives can challenge Western institutions.

Can we successfully make space for diverse curriculum, worldviews and people in our schools? Are Indigenous and Black-serving institutions the solution to racism and curriculum representation?

The event will feature Maurice Riley-Case, Associate Director of Black Inclusion, Success and Strategic Initiatives at McGill University, and Saviluk Thomassie, a First Peoples Studies student at Concordia, and it will be moderated by Elisa Cohen-Bucher, Community Program Manager at the Indigenous Community NETWORK of Montreal.
