Are you passionate about collaboration, community health, and advancing Indigenous leadership in urban spaces? The NETWORK is looking for a dynamic individual to coordinate the Montreal Indigenous Health Advisory Circle (MIHAC), a space where partners come together to focus on systemic changes in the health and social service sector, notably the equitable access to health care services for Indigenous community members.

Title: MIHAC Coordinator
Type: Full time, 35h a week
Location: Hybrid (3 days from home, 2 days from the office located in Verdun)
Salary: 33$ per hour

Mandate

This is a MIHAC Coordinator position with a focus on Indigenous Health in Montreal through the coordination of regular Montreal Indigenous Health Advisory Circle (MIHAC) meetings and focusing on implementing MIHAC priorities. This position is part of the Community Program Team and reports to the Community Program Manager.

Responsabilities

Coordination of MIHAC meetings

  • Schedule quarterly meetings with MIHAC members (Projets Autochtones du Québec, Native Friendship Center, Montréal Autochtone, Southern Quebec Inuit Association, Femmes Autochtones du Québec, etc).
  • Build the MIHAC agenda in collaboration with the Executive Director and share it with partners before each meeting, along with any supporting documentation.
  • Writes the MIHAC meeting summary and ensures relevant documentation of every meeting.
  • Co-facilitate the MIHAC meetings with the Executive Director.
  • Provide MIHAC updates, summaries, recommendations, and calls for action, and brings these forward to the Table locale d’accessibilité aux services de santé et services sociaux pour les Autochtones à Montréal.

Advocacy and relationship building

  • Attend the Table meetings and works closely with the Centre intégré universitaire de la santé et des services sociaux (CIUSSS) partners in order to create systemic long-term changes within the healthcare system. 
  • Meet regularly with the CIUSSS partners to share information, provide updates on task status, reduce information silos, and provide relevant updates about organizations in regards to healthcare (NETWORK and partners). 
  • Engage with Indigenous partners and follow up on the implementation of actions identified by MIHAC members, which are to be co-coordinated and implemented by the CIUSSS, Public Health, as well as Indigenous and Indigenous-serving organizations. 
  • Create an action plan in collaboration with the Community Program Manager and MIHAC members.

Supervision

  • Supervise and guide the Health Navigation Coordinator.
  • Oversee the Health Navigation Coordinator’s work via weekly meetings and a collaborative relationship. 
  • Support the Health Navigation Coordinator in their professional development. 
  • Participate in their yearly evaluation.

Centre intégré universitaire de la santé et des services sociaux (CIUSSS) and Ministère de la santé et des services sociaux (MSSS) funds

  • Collaborate with the Financial Manager to stay updated on annual spending and management of CIUSSS and MSSS funds. 
  • Understand the context of all CIUSSS and MSSS funding, including the Secrétariat aux relations avec les Premières Nations et les Inuit: Government Action Plan for First Nations and Inuit Social and Cultural Well-Being 2022-2027.
  • Collaborate with the Reporting Coordinator to provide support to partner organizations and share relevant information on the usage of CIUSSS and MSSS funds and stay up to date on the spendings. 
  • Keep the Executive Director informed about the progress and budget updates. 

Participate in teamwork

  • Participate in the team’s internal culture by being present at the workplace, in team meetings and in team events and activities (optional for interns and contractors).
  • Proactively communicate details of activities to the team during meetings and the weekly team meeting. 
  • Demonstrate respect for colleagues by responding to messages in a timely manner and arriving at required times for meetings and activities. 
  • Be aware of the various policies and procedures in effect within the organization and contact administration if needed. 
  • Encourage a work environment based on proactivity, respect, inclusion, listening, decolonial approaches, creativity and Indigenous practices and values.

 

Qualifications and assets

Qualifications 

  • Work experience with Indigenous communities.
  • Strong knowledge of Indigenous realities and the healthcare system.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in facilitating meetings and making decisions by consensus.

Assets

Education: Degree in a field related to the position (social work, Indigenous studies, project management, social sciences, etc.)

Experience: 

  • Lived experiences as an Indigenous person. 
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience in the healthcare system. 
  • English-French bilingualism.
  • Speaking and writing an Indigenous language.
