All year round, organizations from the Indigenous sector in Tiohtià:ke work tirelessly for the wellbeing of Indigenous peoples in the city. These organizations rely on donations to ensure they can properly provide essential services, such as shelters for those experiencing homelessness, youth and family programs, food distribution, cultural revitalization initiatives, and more.

Musique Nomade

Musique Nomade is a non-profit organization that produces and promotes traditional and contemporary Indigenous musicians. The organization supports emerging artists, claims cultural representation within the music industry and contributes to the digital memory of traditional Indigenous languages and music.

The Cabot Square Project by the Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal

The Cabot Square Project was launched in 2014 by the Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal (NWSM) with support from the Borough of Ville-Marie. This initiative was created in response to the displacement of Indigenous people in downtown Montreal, and continues to provide support, safety, and advocacy for vulnerable populations in and around Cabot Square.

Tasiutigiit

Tasiutigiit is a non-profit organization that offers support and community for families of adopted and fostered Indigenous Children. The association seeks to educate foster and adoptive parents about historical and ongoing colonial violence and intergenerational trauma, while providing their children access to positive role models from their communities of origin who can help support them to access their culture and strengthen their Indigenous identity.

Indigenous Support Workers Project

The mandate of ISWP is to center and support the well-being of Indigenous people with lived experiences of homelessness through decolonial advocacy and revitalization practices. ISWP is committed to providing wrap-around care and fostering relationships of trust based in wholistic healing and skills development to support our community members’ transition to an autonomous and empowered life free from homophobia and transphobia, and other forms of structural violence.
