February 14th 2026 Memorial March to Honour MMIWG2S+
Date: Saturday, February 14th
Venue: Cabot Square
Time: 5:00 PM, 4:15 PM for media
Tiohtià:ke/Montreal
The Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal will be hosting the annual Memorial March for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, Trans, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S). We will gather in Cabot Square starting at 5:00pm, 4:15pm for media, on February 14th to hear from our distinguished Elders and speakers. Family members affected by this crisis will speak. The issue of MMIWG2S+ is ongoing as the victims are repeatedly dehumanized, blamed for the violence of the people who target them, and deliberately ignored by people in institutions.

February 14th is known in both Canada and the US as a day to honour MMIWG2S. It was started in 1992 by the mother of Cheryl Ann Joe, who was murdered on the Downtown Eastside on Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil- Waututh land, BC.
February 14th, our march will bring awareness to the unconscionable rates of violence faced in Montreal today by Indigenous women, girls, trans and 2-spirit people. We know of murders and disappearances in Montreal that are swept under the rug and we fight to get justice. Our march will amplify their voices.
Since 2019, only 2 of the 231 Calls to Justice of theMMIWG National Inquiry have been answered. This is unacceptable!
We invite all members of the public, community organizations, and the media to join us for this memorial march. Bring your drums and signs.
