About ONISHKA

At the intersection of several artistic disciplines but primarily in theater, Productions Onishka is an interdisciplinary arts organization that forges artistic and meaningful connections between Indigenous peoples worldwide while honoring their unique identities, struggles, cultural richness, and resilience.

Founded in 2011 by Émilie Monnet, the works created and produced by Onishka are presented as shows, performances, gatherings, or festivals. They foster original and meaningful artistic collaborations to offer a new perspective on the world in which we live. Onishka means “wake up” in Anishinaabemowin. In this spirit, we believe that artistic creation is a catalyst for social transformation and that it challenges how the realities and struggles of Indigenous peoples are perceived.

Company Commitments

Productions Onishka recognizes that every relationship requires commitment, transparency, and kindness toward oneself, others, and the world around us. Over the past few months, the company has undertaken a process of reflection on the Indigenous-centered transformation of its organizational governance.

Productions Onishka recognizes that all its activities take place on Indigenous territories, governed by protocols and ways of doing things specific to the peoples who are their custodians. Onishka acknowledges that its headquarters are located on Kanien’kehá:ka and Anishinaabe territories, known respectively as Tio’tia:ke and Mooniyaang.
