Reports to: Program Manager
Position status: permanent, part-time
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Remuneration: $25.38 per hour

Mission

PAQ is an Indigenous organization that supports First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people facing housing insecurity in Tio’tià:ke / Montreal. Using a culturally appropriate approach based on empowerment and harm reduction, we provide shelter options, housing, and services that promote well-being and healing and strengthen the community. We work in partnership with other stakeholders to promote the rights to health and housing for urban Indigenous peoples.

Role and Responsibilities

• Reporting to and working in collaboration with the program manager, the shuttle support worker will be responsible for ensuring the shuttle’s safety and welcoming passengers on board.
• The shuttle support worker will work closely with the shuttle driver, their immediate supervisor, and external partners to meet the needs of Indigenous people experiencing homelessness in Montreal by connecting them to existing resources on the island.
• They will welcome, inform, and guide passengers while building a relationship of trust with them. They will check passengers in and assist the driver during on-call trips. 
• They will also ensure the shuttle remains clean and sanitary.

• The candidate will have relevant experience in the field of intervention, social work, or similar fields related to helping professions;

• Solution-oriented, open to new ideas, and committed to a process of continuous improvement.
• Perseverance in problem-solving

Desired Skills and Other Qualifications

• Experience living or working with Indigenous communities or individuals.
• Work or volunteer experience with homeless individuals, people struggling with substance abuse, or people with mental health issues is a significant asset.
• Bilingualism (functional English and French); knowledge of Indigenous languages is a plus.

• Professional ethics
• A first aid certificate is a plus.

*At PAQ, although French is the primary working language, many of the Indigenous clients we serve speak their native language first and English as a second language, with French rarely being used. In order to provide effective support, proficiency in English is required for this position. This requirement is based solely on the nature of the duties and the need to communicate effectively with our clients, in accordance with Quebec’s language laws.
