Conference: Self-determination and cultural securitization of lndigenous peoples in Quebec: legal and political support offered in person at the Centre St-Pierre or online.

To discuss the topics of the introduction of the controversial Cultural Securitization Act without consulting the targeted Aboriginal populations and refusing to recognize systemic discrimination, the recent strengthening of the Charter of the French Language (Bill 101) to the detriment of linguistic rights, the legal challenge to the inherent and constitutional right of Aboriginal peoples to self-government in matters of childhood and culture: First Nations and Inuit are currently facing a (re)colonial approach by the Quebec government to the assertion of their rights to self-determination and cultural securitization.

This conference addresses these contemporary legal and political struggles, as well as the legal-political strategies deployed in response to them, including the adoption of the Declaration on the Rights of First Nations to Self-Determination and Cultural Securitization unanimously adopted in September 2023 by the Assembly of First Nations Quebec-Labrador.
The conference is offered in French only, in person at Centre St-Pierre or virtually.
