Position: Intervention Worker – Shuttle Support
Reporting to: Program Manager
To strengthen our intervention team, we are recruiting an experienced intervention worker for an on-call position.

 

 

Mission : PAQ is an Indigenous organization that supports First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people facing housing insecurity in Tiohtià: ke / Montreal. Using a culturally adapted approach based on empowerment and harm reduction, we offer shelter, housing, and services that promote well-being, healing, and community-building. We work in partnership with other stakeholders to advocate for the health and housing rights of urban Indigenous peoples.

 

Duties and responsibilities :

  • Reporting to and working in collaboration with the Program Manager, the Intervention Worker — Shuttle Support will be responsible for ensuring the safety of the shuttle and welcoming users on board.
  • The Shuttle Support Worker will work closely with the Shuttle Driver, his/her immediate manager and external partners to meet the needs of Indigenous people experiencing homelessness in Montreal by connecting them to existing resources on the island.
  • He or she will welcome, inform and guide users, while building a bond of trust with them. He or she will register users and support the driver during on-call periods. He or she will also be responsible for keeping the shuttle clean and tidy.

Required knowledge, skills, and experience :

  • The candidate will have an interest in the history of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples in Canada;
  • The candidate will have relevant experience in intervention, social work or similar fields related to the helping relationship;
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to social justice and reconciliation for Canada’s Indigenous peoples.
  • Personal qualities of integrity and dedication to PAQ’s mission.
  • Solution-oriented, open to new ideas and committed to continuous improvement.
  • Perseverance in problem-solving

 

Required competencies and qualifications :

  • Experience living or working with Indigenous communities or individuals.
  • Experience working or volunteering with the homeless, substance abusers or people with mental health issues is a strong asset.
  • Bilingualism (functional English and French); Aboriginal languages an asset.
  • Sense of empathy
  • Initiative in problem-solving
  • Professional ethics
  • First aid certification is an asset.

Position status: on call

Compensation: $25/hour

Start date: February 10th, 2025

*All new employees must be available for full-time training, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., for one week following their hire.
