Being an Ally

Our workshops

Being an ally is a privilege

The NETWORK offers awareness-raising workshops for settlers who are ready to engage in building meaningful alliances.

Description

For many years, non-Indigenous allies have been asking how to shift their privileges to better support Indigenous communities and take concrete steps towards (re)concili-action. In an attempt to answer these questions, the NETWORK offers a framework on what to do and what not to do when engaging in this anti-oppression work.

By examining the issues of power imbalances from a systemic perspective and clarifying the place of allies, alongside Indigenous communities, participants will be invited to reflect on their positionalities, roles and impacts.

Although workshops vary depending on the specific needs of each group, the following concepts are usually covered:

  • Introspection on my privilege
  • Indigenous leadership and expertise
  • Individual and collective relations with Indigenous communities
  • Meaningful alliances
  • Consensual practices
  • Amplifying Indigenous voices
  • From reflection to action

On break

The demand for workshops has been growing steadily since the progressive exposure of Indigenous truths in the public sphere. In the face of this recent wave, interest in the NETWORK’s workshops continues to grow and is currently exceeding our capacity. We must therefore put our workshop offer on hold while we restructure our awareness-raising strategy.
