Akpaliapik Manasie Treasures: Inuit stories and legends – free activity
On the occasion of the exhibition Manasie Akpaliapik. Inuit Universe, take part in an exceptional series of tales told in Inuktitut and English by the artist-sculptor, presented in collaboration with the Festival interculturel du conte de Montréal. Born in 1955 into a small sealing community in the Nunavut village of Ikpiarjuk, Manasie Akpaliapik grew up with stories told in the igloo. His imagination is imbued with the legends of the Inuit people, revealed in his sculptures of mythological characters, sacred animals (such as owls, seals and walruses), storytellers and shamans. Considered one of the most gifted artists of his generation, he is also recognized as an elder, a guardian of tradition. For this new series, the artist has agreed to swap his sculpting tools for words; he will tell us stories and legends that are dear to him, treasures of his culture and art.
