Our Mission

Projets Autochtones du Québec (PAQ), based in Tio’tià:ke / Montreal, supports First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people experiencing or at risk of homelessness by providing living environments and social integration services rooted in Indigenous values and traditions. Through support that respects each person’s individual pace and journey, PAQ fosters healing, empowerment, and reconnection with cultural identities.

The Role of the Board of Directors

The Board of Directors is the body elected by the members at the Annual General Meeting to ensure the fulfillment of the mission of Projets Autochtones du Québec.

The Board is responsible for governance, guiding strategic actions, and administering the organization’s affairs in accordance with its bylaws and applicable legal frameworks.

Composition of the Board

  • The Board of Directors is composed of nine (9) individuals appointed from among the organization’s members;
  • The majority of Board members must be Indigenous and able to demonstrate this status;
  • To this end, five (5) seats are reserved for Indigenous members.
  • Directors are appointed for a term of two (2) years and begin their mandate immediately following the close of the Annual General Meeting during the year of their appointment.
  • Commitment Required from a Board Member
  • Participate in approximately nine (9) meetings per year (with a break during the summer period);
  • Be available for the full duration of the director’s mandate;
  • Participate in the organization’s community life, including attending festive events organized by PAQ such as year-end celebrations, National Indigenous Peoples Day, Inuit National Day, and other important occasions;
  • Review documents submitted by the Executive Director before each monthly meeting;
  • Follow ongoing files and ensure the implementation of decisions made by the Board;
  • Participate in the creation of working committees, as needed, and report back to the Board.

The Board of Directors Has the Following Powers, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the organization’s mission and objectives are achieved;
  • Provide strategic direction;
  • Hire and evaluate the Executive Director;
  • Develop and implement operational policies;
  • Ensure the overall proper functioning of the organization and monitor established processes;
  • Create committees and receive reports on their activities, as needed;
  • Adopt a budget and ensure the necessary funding is available;
  • Designate the individual(s) authorized to sign banking documents and financial instruments;
  • Exercise the powers and perform the duties provided for in the bylaws;
  • Appoint the officers of the organization.

To be eligible to serve on the Board of Directors, a person must:

  • Be a member of the organization (you can join via this application);
  • Be over 18 years of age;
  • Not be under tutorship, curatorship, or declared legally incapable by a court;
  • Not be subject to a court order prohibiting them from serving as a director of a legal entity;
  • Not be an undischarged bankrupt;
  • Not be an employee of the organization, subject to Article 69 of the general bylaws.

Desired Profile

  • Strong interest in social justice issues and Indigenous homelessness;
  • Desire to contribute concretely to improving the living conditions of PAQ members;
  • Sensitivity to the realities of First Nations and Inuit communities;
  • Experience or networks within community, social, political, or business sectors (an asset);
  • Strong ties to the Indigenous community in Montreal or Quebec are considered an asset;
  • Experience in accounting and finance, law, administration, governance, or helping professions is considered an asset.
