Event Series with 2025 Mellon Artist-In-Residence MC Snow
The Indigenous Studies and Community Engagement Initiative invites you to a major artist showcase with MC Snow, the 2025 Mellon Artist-In-Residence. The event will be an artist panel with fellow Montreal-based Indigenous artists Barbara Diabo, Thomasina Phillips, and Montreal Schoolboard Indigenous Support coordinator Kurt Kershl, on the topic of Indigenous Art in Schools and Universities. It will take place on Thursday, Mar. 27 between 4-6 PM in Arts-150.
MC Snow lives and works in Kahnawake and Tiotiake. His sculptures and paintings address the social challenges of living in a post-colonial climate of reclamation. It is with a determined vision for hope and search for the truth that MC wants to confront the reality of his own truth and reconciliation with his past. Themes of division, mistrust, adversity, and collusion slam against the force of truth, respect, honor, and loyalty. This continual push and pull of power that seems to sometimes tie us down, sometimes set us free. When not engaged in personal projects, MC is a big advocate for promoting the visual arts in the local school boards and universities.
Other events in the ISCEI Artist-In-Residence Series include:
Thursday, April 3 in Macdonald-Harrington G-10 (1-2:30 PM): “An Artist Talk with MC Snow”
MC Snow will speak about his experience working with the McCord Museum on the 2023-24 “Presence of the Past” Exhibition. His original piece, “Tell Me A Story” will be displayed on location.
We encourage those interested to come and attend the event or workshops!
