Introducing the “Voices of Inclusion: Oral Histories of Indigenous Disability” project

14 November 2024
Release

In recognition of the 10th anniversary of Indigenous Disability Awareness Month (IDAM), Indigenous Disability Canada (IDC) / B.C. Aboriginal Network on Disability Society (BCANDS) is proud to announce the launch of the “Voices of Inclusion: Oral Histories of Indigenous Disability” project.

Through this important multi-year oral history initiative, we aim to capture, preserve, and highlight traditional understandings of disability from an Indigenous perspective to foster greater awareness of the roles these understandings can play in advancing positive change in the lives of Indigenous Peoples with disabilities.

As such, our research team will be working nationally to identify, connect, and learn from Indigenous Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community members interested in sharing their insights into historical and traditional perspectives of disability through recorded video interviews.

Please see the attached poster for more information, which includes a QR code for our project Linktree.
