ABOUT THE COMPANY

A’nó:wara Dance Theatre is an Indigenous-run dance company directed by award-winning choreographer Barbara Kaneratonni Diabo from the Kanien’kehaka (Mohawk) nation of Kahnawake.

The company specializes in creating works that highlight Indigenous themes, stories and perspectives by often combining powwow, Haudenosaunee dance and mainstream contemporary styles to create a fusion of dance that speaks to many different populations and tastes.

JOB ROLE

A’nó:wara Dance Theatre is looking for an exhibit designer – Scenography to elaborate and develop the scenographic concept for its exhibition project Sky Walkers. This traveling exhibition will immerse visitors in the fascinating culture of Mohawk ironworkers. Most of the research work for the exhibition has already been done by our team, and we’re looking for the rare pearl who will bring our ideas to life!

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Artistic Director and the coordination, you will be responsible to:

  • Elaborate and develop the scenographic concept for the exhibition Sky Walkers (study of space, materials, multimedia elements, circulation, lighting, etc.) based on research already carried out;
  • Produce project presentation documents, plans and technical drawings for the various exhibition elements;
  • Participate in and monitor the production schedule and budget;
  • Contribute to the selection and positioning of objects and works on display;
  • Prepare and follow up on quote requests for various scenographic elements;
  • Participate in the follow-up and coordination of technical aspects of the installation of scenographic elements (mounting, lighting, interactive devices, etc.);
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities related to the position.

PROFILE REQUIRED

  • Undergraduate student or graduate in museology, architecture, interior design, design or any related discipline;
  • Proficiency in the following environments and platforms: Autocad, Sketchup, Vectorworks, Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, Microsoft Suite, Google Suite;
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal in both French and English;
  • Creativity: keen sense of detail and aesthetics, ability to propose innovative ideas and turn them into reality;
  • Teamwork: ability to work in a collaborative environment, good communication skills;
  • Organizational skills: thoroughness, ability to meet deadlines and manage priorities.
