Position available – Art director

10 October 2024
Jobs

Founded in Montreal in 1985, Ondinnok is Canada’s first French-language Indigenous theater company. In nearly forty years, the company has produced over thirty works and events, as well as being involved with its community through training workshops. In 2017, Dave Jenniss succeeded Yves Sioui Durand as artistic director. Here’s his message:

“We’ll soon be opening our next season filled with new projects, to mark 40 years of Ondinnok Productions. But 2025 also means change, a new vision and a new approach for our magnificent company. After seven years with Ondinnok, the time has come for me to make way for a new artist to take over as artistic director.”

So we’re looking for one or two people to take on the role of artistic director and lead the company into the creative future.

As such, Ondinnok wishes to put in place a gradual transition process for the artistic direction to give the new person(s) time to get their bearings and immerse themselves in the essence of the company.

The door is open to Indigenous artists from the performing arts community, with good experience of producing and directing projects. We’re looking for a creator with a strong artistic vision, imagination and innovative ideas. If you are interested in helping the company evolve in today’s effervescent context for Indigenous arts, we invite you to apply.

The person(s) selected will be invited to join the company in the form of:

  • a transition process to support the current artistic direction in its creation and activities for the company’s 40th anniversary; a possible collaboration with another person as artistic co-director
  • a salary for the creators selected for their participation; and
  • a tangible contribution on your part to the company and to the Indigenous artistic milieu.

This transition will lead to a permanent position on the Ondinnok team starting in 2026.
If this adventure appeals to you and you’d like to take on a new professional and artistic challenge, don’t wait any longer to apply!

Send us your application in the following form:

  • A CV outlining your artistic and/or Indigenous cultural experience; and a letter, audio or video message about your experience as an artist, your artistic vision and what resonates with you about Ondinnok’s mission and values.
  • Tell us about your dreams, what inspires you and what you’d like to bring to tomorrow’s Indigenous theater.

All submissions should be sent by November 15, 2024 to Dave Jenniss, Artistic Director: dave@ondinnok.org

We look forward to meeting you. O:nen!
