Weekend Coordinator, PAQ2 Emergency Shelter

Reporting to: Intervention and Services Manager
Contract: Full-time, fixed-term contract (3 months) with possibility of renewal.

Mission
PAQ is an Indigenous organization that supports First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people facing housing insecurity in Tio’tià: ke / Montreal. Using a culturally adapted approach based on empowerment and harm reduction, we offer shelter, housing, and services that promote well-being, healing, and community-building. We work in partnership with other stakeholders to advocate for the health and housing rights of urban Indigenous peoples.

Position Objective
Under the direction of the Intervention Services Manager, the PAQ2 Shelter Coordinator (Intervention) oversees the delivery of high-quality, culturally appropriate intervention services at this low-barrier shelter with a supervised outdoor consumption area (alcohol and cannabis only) for members of the Indigenous community who may experience addictions and mental health challenges. The person in this role supervises the intervention team of over 20 frontline workers and has the overall responsibility of ensuring the safety of participants and staff on site, as well as compliance with all PAQ intervention protocols and procedures.

This is a shared coordination role with other co-coordinators.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Provide intervention support and coaching to the shelter’s intervention team (approximately 50-60% on-site or in the tent).
  • Ensure accurate and timely updates on the online scheduling platform for all hours worked by intervention team members.
  • Coordinate and track all performance-related issues of intervention staff and escalate them to the Intervention Services Manager.
  • Support the recruitment processes for intervention staff as requested by the Intervention Services Manager.
  • Assist with the development of culturally appropriate policies and protocols with the Intervention Services Manager to ensure the safety and well-being of staff and participants at the shelter.
  • Communicate and enforce all site policies and protocols, including COVID-19 protocols.
  • Liaise with external partners (government, donors) and with neighbors.
  • Produce statistics and reports for the shelter.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Knowledge and understanding of the impact of intergenerational trauma, the realities of Indigenous populations, urban barriers, and Indigenous social issues.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a senior intervention role, preferably within an Indigenous organization and/or in the homelessness sector.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a team coordination role in a community organization.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written French AND English; fluency in an Indigenous language is an asset.
  • Strong team management and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to communicate well with team members and use a collaborative approach.

Academic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or DEC in social work, management, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Completion of the OMEGA course or similar training program is an asset.

Other Requirements

Flexible schedule (regular evening and night hours).

Position Details
Contract: Full-time, fixed-term contract (3 months) with possibility of renewal.


Schedule: 35 hours/week
Friday 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Location: The employee will be based at the PAQ2 Emergency Shelter, located at 2060, rue Saint-Dominique, Montreal, H2X 2X1.

The employee must be able to travel to all PAQ sites if necessary:
Main Shelter: 169 rue de la Gauchetière Est, Montreal, H2X 1P7
AkhwàHouse: 1025 rue Saint-Hubert, Montreal, H2L 3Y3
Annagiarvik House: 3702 rue Sainte-Famille, Montreal, H2X 2L4

Salary and Benefits:
$31.50/hour
70 hours of sick/personal leave
3 weeks of paid vacation per year
Group insurance after 3 months on the job.

All new employees must be available for full-time training, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., for one week following their hiring.
