Evaluation of health needs

26 April 2012
Research

According to Statistics Canada (2006), Montreal is the eighth largest city among Canadian metropolitan areas in terms of the number of Indigenous residents. The need for more accurate data on the origin and profile of Indigenous communities in Montreal therefore became a 2012 priority for the NETWORK’s Steering Committee.

As part of this research, in-person interviews were conducted with 89 Indigenous health service users. Topics covered included living in an urban setting, self-determination, perceived barriers to services, perceptions of health and well-being, spirituality and connection to the world, etc. A questionnaire was subsequently completed by 94 health service providers in Montreal. The main themes were governance, perception of well-being and service delivery.
