Homelessness report 2018
This Montreal Indigenous Community NETWORK report provides an overview of the state of Indigenous homelessness in Tiohtià:ke, with a specific focus on the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough.
To date, there is still an overrepresentation of First Nations, Métis and Inuit people experiencing homelessness, at risk of housing insecurity, with low incomes or facing unsafe living conditions. Some of the factors that contribute to Indigenous homelessness are systemic racism, Canadian colonial structures, unsafe housing conditions, poverty, violence in communities and urban spaces, as well as inaccessibility to services and education. With the COVID-19 pandemic, the NETWORK team has also witnessed the exacerbation of inequalities and growing unmet needs.
