Cultural Manual for adoptive parents
This manual was compiled by the Social Services Committee of the NETWORK. It was developed to provide support to foster and adoptive parents of Indigenous children.
The need for this manual was identified through various meetings with foster and adoptive parents and child welfare professionals. Many were not aware of the range of culturally appropriate services available to urban Indigenous peoples or of the unique traditions of each Indigenous nation.
Indigenous children in care are entitled to services that respect the diversity of their cultural heritage. It is hoped that the practical information and cultural clarifications provided in this document will serve to facilitate and strengthen the relationship between the child and caregiver.
