Resources for Indigenous Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals
February 14th is a date to honour missing and murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals.
To this day, there is still no agreement between Indigenous communities and colonial authorities on the exact number of missing and murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals. Nonetheless, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) states that Indigenous Women represent 10% of the missing Women in Kanata. Considering that the Indigenous population equates to less than 5% of the total population in the country, this overrepresentation is alarming and requires several immediate actions to put an end to preventable the disappearance of our mothers, sisters, daughters and loved ones.
To this end, a national inquiry was launched in 2016 and its findings were written up in a final report. In 2021, an action plan was announced and a progress report of this plan was shared with the public in 2022.
The NETWORK would like to highlight this important day by taking a preventive approach. This is why we share with you today a list of resources available for Indigenous Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals in Tiohtià:ke.

Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal
A safe environment where Women can begin to rebuild their lives. The shelter provides front-line services to Indigenous Women and Trans or Two-Spirit people as well as their children. The services offered include: shelter, food, accompaniment and support. The shelter is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Chez Doris
Chez Doris is a Women’s shelter that offers services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The team meets the basic needs of vulnerable or homeless Women. In collaboration with the Makivik Corporation, the shelter also offers an assistance program for Inuit Women as well as a dedicated worker to meet the needs of this population.
