A project of the Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal, Miyoskamin is an innovative center and second-stage housing complex that provides comprehensive health care, social services, and access to justice services for Indigenous women, youth, and families. We are currently looking for a Human Resources Coordinator to support the implementation and adherence of Human Resource policies at Miyoskamin.

 

The HR Coordinator at Miyoskamin is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of HR policies and practices. This person will perform HR administrative duties, manage all hiring, onboarding, and retention activities, and support performance evaluation and professional development programs for staff at Miyoskamin. 

 

POSITION TITLE: Human Resources Coordinator 

TYPE OF POSITION: Full time 

LOCATION: 757 rue des Seigneurs, Montréal QC & off site office space

SALARY: $55,000 – $60,000/yr 

SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday 

START DATE: June 2024 

PROBATION: Three (3) month probation period, after which an evaluation will be conducted.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

HR Administration 

  • Serve as a resource for all staff, providing information, advice and resolving day-to-day HR issues for Miyoskamin and Saralikitaaq 
  • Work with Director in developing HR policies for Miyoskamin in preparation for Miyoskamin becoming its own non-profit organization 
  • Support administrative tasks related to strategic planning alongside Steering Committee, Director, and Executive Director 
  • Advise payroll-related changes (e.g. new hires, status changes, terminations); 
  • Ensuring compliance of health and safety program including completion of all related paperwork and forms, performing workplace inspections; 
  • Lead on all liaison and paperwork for CNESST files; Consult with labor lawyers as necessary. 
  • Enroll new staff, processing salary changes, and other transactions ensuring the alternative insurance plan and Group Pension Plan are up to date and accurate;
  • Overseeing the maintenance and filing of personnel files, employment contracts, and service contracts for NWSM. 
  • Organizing and managing files within a digital and physical filing system
  • Oversee key government required policies such as équité salariale, francisation, workplace health and safety reforms
  •  Ensure that all rules and regulations are respected and followed by staff as outlined in the organizational manual, and assisting in creating a Miyoskamin version of NWSM manual
  • Develop, implement, distribute office space and use policies
  • Assist Director in handling professional misconduct within the team in compliance with the organizational policies
  • Implement naming and document conformity in the organization
  • Working closely with NWSM HR Manager, meeting on a regular basis
  • Other duties as required by the Director

  • Ability to thrive in a fluid working environment 
  • Bilingualism in English and French (required) 
  • Indigenous language skills (asset) 

Education & Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree or DEC in relevant field
  • 2+ years of relevant work experience 
  • Experience working in a non-profit setting 
  • Experience in the delivery of services for Indigenous women and families
